The Syd Chatwood Memorial Scholarship for Inclusion
Since 1992, Beyond the Blue Box has been dedicated to inclusivity. Our main focus on inclusiveness involves those with developmental disabilities.
Syd was an individual who promoted diversity, equity, and inclusiveness for all, for that reason, Beyond the Blue Box is proud to announce a scholarship in Syd’s memory that represents his approach to life.
Criteria
- An Individual who has dedicated time and energy to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all people who face challenges due to developmental disabilities.
- Has raised awareness for the importance and need for diversity, equity and inclusion to peer groups by demonstrating an active role in the lives of people with developmental disabilities.
- Has served as an advocate and supported people with developmental disabilities locally or beyond.
- Has advocated for the rights and needs of people with developmental disabilities and has demonstrated a commitment to improving their lives.
Eligibility criteria
- Must be enrolled in an accredited post secondary institution or trade program.
- Must have attended a secondary school in Northumberland County prior to scholarship application deadline.
Checklist of Requirements
- 2 references: professional or personal, including contact information. Non-familial references
- Confirmation of acceptance to an accredited post-secondary institution or trade program ie: Letter of acceptance, receipt of paid tuition, transcript, letter of enrollment, course schedule, etc.
- Confirmation of secondary school attendance in Northumberland County.
- Complete letter of reflection.
Letter of Reflection
A letter of reflection is required to be submitted by the scholarship application deadline. The letter should be composed of approximately 250 words and include answers and reflections to the following questions:
1. Discuss an attribute or accomplishment that sets you apart and demonstrates strength and character.
2. Describe how this meaningful achievement relates to your field of study and goals for the future.
3. What does ‘inclusiveness’ mean to you, and why do you believe that you are the right candidate for this scholarship?
